PAINFUL to watch. UGH.

I don’t usually take the time to write movie reviews but this movie was SO ATROCIOUS that I feel compelled to try and save someone else their money and time. Venom one was fantastic. This one was garbage. Nothing good about it whatsoever. Horrible acting, cheesy lines, boring story. I felt like I was watching something a 12 yr old boy would have written. Not sure how this got so many high ratings. Absolute trash.

I loved the first Venom movie. I hate this one with the fire of a thousand suns. I don’t know who went missing between the first and the second movie, but someone critical got dropped, and boy does it show. This movie is utterly vile, the first half in particular. You expect a lot of violence from superhero movies, but I have come to trust Marvel not to engage in things that are deeply offensive, like animal abuse, rape, or the torture of induvidual innocents. This movie throws all that out. It treats the death by torture of a sweet little terrier as a wildly funny joke. It thinks abandoning dometic animals to fend for themselves in the wild is hilarious. It thinks torturing and murdering a random guy begging for his life because he has a family that he loves is a delightfully amusing, especially since it’s by in essence thrusting a male appendage down his throat till he dies. In other words, this movie is evil. Anyone thats ever worked in animal rescue or with rape or abuse victims is likely to find this movie nauseating at best. I mean, who thinks torturing a dog to death is funny???? Who???? Well, the people that made this movie, that’s who. And given the fact that it has such a high rating here on Amazon, apparently a bunch of other people are fine with it too.
That’s not the only problem with the movie, though. The script is utterly stupid and flat, the story line is pointless and inconsistent with the characters. Why would Eddie and Venom not be heroes saving the innocent and eating the guilty like they planned at the end of the last movie? Why is Eddie a neurotic wreck again? Also, Hardy seems to be phoning in his performance (though the voice of Venom is still great) and Harrelson is becoming a caricature of himself. I am utterly sick of seeing him as a psycho killer. Can’t he do anything else?
On the positive side, it’s great to see Naomie Harris reprising her Calypso makeup and hair from the Pirates of the Caribean days, I love that look. They don’t give her much to actualy DO but at least she looks good, and the few scenes she gets to actually do something in, she’s great as always. I think Michelle Williams is even better in this movie than the first one, though sadly we don’t get to see much of her either. Peggy Lu is also great as ever. Why am I not praising any of the male actors? Because even though they have the lions share of the movie, they all s**k. There is not one interesting performance among them, except maybe Reid Scott.
Save your money. I wouldn’t watch this again if it were free. So disappointing.

First of all – I need to premise this by disclosing that I really enjoy the Venom character. Yes, the character is very dark and definitely the “anti-hero” type but he does have some redeeming qualities and I enjoy the dark humor. Parents, I do think this movie should be rated R rather than PG-13. There is a TON of REALLY grotesque violence. In fact, the movie is 90% violence, 10% plot. I feel like this movie *REALLY* lacked character development across the board. Tons of action scenes that were engaging causes the movie to run at a very fast pace but it’s acrually *too* fast. It’s like key pieces were cut out. I will go into a bit more detail below about this. Also, if you are a Marvel Universe fan – definitely watch the post credit scene because it ties into the Avengers/Spiderman movies.

SOME *ALMOST* SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT: This movie was super predictable so what I’m about to say really isn’t much of a spoiler but I wanted to put the warning just in case you are the type to not want to know anything at all about the characters or film premise. In general, the characters lack any real depth. Everytime the script begins to show something interesting about the character, the scene cuts and they enter a fight scene. I really wish they had gone into more depth about why Carnage was red and why Venom specifically reacted to his color. Some type of backstory would have been interesting. I also wish they had explored Mrs. Chen’s relationship/scenes with Venom more. In general, all of the characters were very underdeveloped – to the point that the ONLY thing that makes this movie good is the character development done in the first movie. If this movie didnt have the first movie’s character development of the Venom character, it would be an awful movie. The script and characters just seem rushed and phoned-in. I would wait until the price really drops before adding it to your collection (If you are a Marvel Universe fan who is collecting all the movies) or renting it. If you are not interested in specifically collecting ALL movies in the Marvel Universe, skip purchasing this one – it’s not worth watching twice. If you have Disney+, just wait until it’s available to watch there. It’s entertaining enough to watch but it isn’t worth paying much for!

Coming from a comic book aficionado and movie buff. I found it disappointing

Although it was nice to see Carnage get his movie time the Arc was WAY off from any other version plus it’s PG-13 which left a sour taste in my mouth 😭 but if you have a little kid who loved the first one I HIGHLY RECOMMEND 💜! If you know anything about the character Carnage this garbage will make you sick that they didn’t make it R! Imagine a PG-13 DEADPOOL, that’s what you’re getting a watered down cash-grab by Disney when it would have been infinitely better and probably would have done better in the box office if they did it right and didn’t tweak the original comic book version to make it crap and totally different from the original. That’s my professional opinion. Great for kids that don’t like blood and know anything about the real story or it’s characters. So I rate it fair for these reasons❤️

Venom 2: Maximum Carnage-aloo

Verified purchase

I thought that the first Venom movie was ok despite it deviating a lot from the source material and not being R-rated when it should have been. But when it was teased that Carnage would be in the next movie I was psyched. So here we are with Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and well, like the first movie, it was ok. The acting was good, with Tom Hardy still being a delight as Eddie Brock, although Venom’s childish antics can get annoying pretty quickly. The CGI effects were decent, and they did a good job bringing both Venom and Carnage to life. Speaking of which I was surprised how well Woody Harrelson was as Cletus Kassady/Carnage, he was definitely a scene stealer; plus he didn’t have that stupid red wig from the end of the first movie. However I still had some issues with this, the main one being that, despite it being about man-eating alien monsters and one of the main characters is a serial killer, it’s still PG-13 instead of R. I get that they’re playing it safe so that the characters can possibly cross over to the MCU (which if the end credits scene suggests that it did happen, I don’t know I haven’t seen Spider-Man: No Way Home yet), but still I wished that it could be a bit more grizzlier because, well, it’s Venom and Carnage we’re talking about her. Another one is the introduction of Shriek and Mulligan. The movie treats them like they’re really important to the story when in actuality Shriek is there to just cause conflict between Cletus and the Carnage Symbiote near the end of the movie, and Mulligan…well he’s just there to get Eddie in trouble with the police, the whole thing with him and Shriek isn’t really important. Also her being Cletus’ girlfriend kind of takes away some of his menace since he’s supposed to be this psychotic maniac. And finally, the way the movie tries to make Eddie and Cletus have this Hannibal Lectar and Clarice Starling-like relationship doesn’t really work since we’ve barely seen them together at the beginning of the movie. Overall the Venom sequel was an ok movie. It’s a little better than the first one, but only because Carnage is in it and he’s always awesome no matter what.

Not bad but falls a little flat.

Overall it was a good movie and the CGI was much better this time around. When carnage was on screen it was great but it feels short. There is so much time spent on a break up plot the movie kinda grinds to a halt and you don’t really buy it.

Overall worth at least a watch but I don’t foresee much rewatch potential personally but pick it up for yourself, you’ll enjoy it for one watch at least.

Part horror story Part comedy Part romance

Verified purchase

Let There Be Carnage was a departure from the first Venom film. That was a sci-fi tale focusing upon the excesses of the rich and powerful. Let There Be Carnage was part horror film, part comedy and part love story.

The horror part is shown in the two main villains played by Woody Harrelson and Naomi Harris. Harrelson for example is a psychopath. They also represent the romance as the two were separated and yearn to be re-united so they can go on a killing spree. Of the two Harris was by far the more interesting with her own kind of crazy. She also wasn’t just a sidekick.

The comedy comes from Venom. In the original picture Tom Hardy was dealing with having Venom inside of him. Here Venom is the main character who wants to be in control. That’s shown in the first scene where Venom wants to bite off the head of a policeman. Venom is also spitting out jokes left and right.

Overall this might not have been what people were expecting but it was a good follow up. I enjoyed Venom the jokester.

Also watch the post-credit scene. It will show where the series is going. It’s a big surprise.
