Netflix series Ozark pulled out all the stops for its third outing with the drama being multiplied by 10. Fans were served up many plot twists and curveballs before ending things on quite a shocking note. But one question fans have is about Jonah Byrde (played by Skylar Gaertner) who seemed to be left unhinged by the murder of his uncle Ben Davis (Tom Pelphrey).
Who did Jonah Byrde shoot in Ozark?
WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Ozark season 3
Season three featured the death of Ben, who was executed on the orders of his sister Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) after she realised his bipolar disorder could threaten to see the truth about the Navarro Cartel spill out.
Ben was killed by the cartel’s resident hitman Nelson (Nelson Bonilla) with the substitute teacher’s ashes later arriving at the Byrde home.
Jonah was left devastated when he discovered his uncle had been killed and held responsible attorney Helen Pierce (Janet McTeer).
The teen even threatened Helen with a gun in season three final, vowing to shoot her as she confessed to ordering Ben’s death.

Helen explained Ben had to die because he had become a liability for all of them, before delivering a crushing blow when she revealed it was Wendy who had agreed to the killing.
In the end, Jonah didn’t kill Helen and let her go with Wendy and Marty (Jason Bateman) to Mexico where they met with godfather Omar Navarro (Felix Solis).
Although Helen might have survived Jonah, she was then murdered by the cartel as Navarro chose the Byrdes over the lawyer.
After Helen left, Jonah continued to rage around the house with the rifle and ended up firing it.

From the looks of it, Jonah didn’t shoot anyone, just simply fired a bullet through a window.
Then again, there could be a twist in the tale with Jonah accidentally killing someone.
There have even been theories Jonah might have murdered Erin Pierce (Madison Thompson) when he fired the gun, hitting her through the window.
Jonah could well have taken out his aggression and anger of Helen’s daughter after letting the lawyer go.

As season three showed, Jonah is a sharp-shooter – he managed to fire a gun at a set of cans from a distance after he was goaded by some teens. Therefore, Jonah could easily have hit a human if he had chosen to.
Jonah was also taken hunting and handed a rifle by Jacob Snell (Peter Mullan), which may have been where the youngster started developing his shooting skills.
Sadly, fans will have to wait and see to find out whether Jonah simply damaged the window or caught someone with a stray bullet.
The scene involving Jonah harboured a deep sense of foreboding and hinted at a shape of things to come for the teen in the final outing.
Addressing the moment, the show’s creator Chris Mundy told the Post Play: Ozark how Jonah was the only one to never question his parents about their life choices.
He willingly accepted his parents moving to the Ozarks and working for a drug cartel.
The child even got into money laundering himself as he saw his parents doing the same, while his sister Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) was more sceptical.
All of this came at a cost for Jonah, whom Mundy said had “observed a lot of loss”, which could take a toll on him later down the line.
Not only did Jonah lose Ben but he also lost his friend Buddy (Harris Yulin) with his uncle being somewhat of a replacement until his own untimely demise.
Mundy explained: “We’ve never pushed Jonah past the brink and it was really important that like, we mess him up because none of this stuff is normal.
“The idea of him shooting the window was partly that he just had to shoot something,
“And partly that he wanted to destroy the facade of this being happy or normal.
“The second Helen starts telling him some of the truths, you don’t wanna believe but when you hear the truth, part of you, you just know it and you don’t accept it for a little while and he knew it.”
The star went on to say: “So he needed to smash up what his parents had built in any way he could.”
Adding: “He needed a physical act otherwise he would’ve torn himself up I think.”
